Ever spend your weekend thinking about all the things you planned to accomplish but never started? Enjoy this funny and relatable look at weekend goals, procrastination, and the art of relaxing.
Sometimes the Best Weekend Plans Never Leave the Planning Stage
Every Friday, it starts the same way. I make a list of everything I'm going to accomplish over the weekend. Clean the house. Organize the closet. Finish that project. Exercise. Meal prep. Read a book. Conquer the world.
Then the weekend arrives.
Somewhere between sleeping in, watching "just one more episode," scrolling through social media, and enjoying a few snacks, those ambitious plans quietly fade into the background.
Before I know it, Sunday evening has arrived, and I'm reflecting on all the things I said I'd do—but didn't.
The funny thing is that many of us treat weekends like they're 72-hour productivity marathons. We pack them with enough tasks to fill an entire month and then feel surprised when we don't get everything done.
The reality is that weekends are often meant for more than checking boxes. They give us an opportunity to rest, recharge, laugh, and enjoy life a little.
Sure, the garage may still need cleaning, and that project may still be waiting, but sometimes taking a break is productive too.
It's easy to focus on what wasn't accomplished. However, maybe the weekend wasn't wasted at all.
Maybe you spent time with family.
Maybe you caught up on much-needed sleep.
Maybe you enjoyed a quiet moment of peace.
Maybe you simply gave yourself permission to slow down.
Those things matter too.
One unfinished weekend doesn't define your success. There will be another Monday, another weekend, and another opportunity to tackle those goals.
Until then, it's okay to laugh at yourself a little.
After all, reflecting on everything you said you'd do—but didn't—is practically a weekend tradition for many of us.
So, if your to-do list remains untouched, don't worry. Consider it a rough draft for next weekend.
My favorite weekend activity is reflecting on all the things I said I'd do... but didn't.
And somehow, I'm already making a brand-new list for next weekend.
